The All-Laser LASIK Procedure
The creation of a flap in the cornea is done using a special type of laser called a femtosecond laser rather than a bladed instrument called a microkeratome. This adds an extra layer of safety to the procedure. The flap is lifted so that the surgeon can apply a second type of laser to the underlying surface and remodel the cornea to correct your specific prescription. The laser used for treatment is therefore different than the one that creates the flap. The second laser allows light to perfectly focus in your eyes and form a sharp image.
The type of laser treatment used in this stage is a distinct consideration from the one that forms the flap and is still very important to the visual quality and sharpness. Many centers that use the bladeless methods may use an inferior laser for the treatment part to cut costs. This may result in an inferior visual outcome. So make sure that you know which type of LASIK specifically you are getting. Bladeless LASIK by itself is not specific enough. For more info on this process see Topography guided LASIK / Contoura®. The flap is repositioned and adheres to the underlying tissue. This permanently corrects your vision
